Primary Follow Up
I was venturing around the Web earlier tonight seeing what bloggers had to say about yesterday’s SC primaries in hopes of finding something interesting to blog about. And sorry…I got nothing.
I wasn’t expecting much…we all knew it was going to be an anti-incumbent year and that’s what we saw. We do live in SC. And we pretty much see some rotten apples replaced with rotten oranges. Woohoo.
As if…anyone would be willing to put money down that we’ll see any actual change in the SC Statehouse.
Then, I found one post of interest over at FITS News where Charleston Republican Tim Scott was praised for being elected.
Scott is black, by the way.
I know. Who cares if he's black. Democrats have known for years there are capable black folk to serve in public office but apparently SC Republicans just got the memo and they’re so proud they elected a black guy for the first time since Reconstruction. It’s like a miracle. A miracle…right here in 2008 South Carolina. Republicans elected a black guy. They deserve a bozo button or something.
Geez, people. Massachusetts elected Edward Brooke (R) to the UNITED STATES Senate in 1966 and here, in 2008 SC, a black Republican just won a SOUTH CAROLINA Senate seat since Reconstruction.
We have come so far.
Yes, I'm being sarcastic…but, I admit…I was excited that maybe…just maybe…SC Republicans were truly going to open the doors to their club and allow black conservatives to have a voice.
But that saying, "if something sounds too good to be true…" kept going through my mind. So, I did a little digging and quickly learned that Tim Scott was another SC Club for Growth project.
Dang y'all. You want a pat on the back for electing a black guy? You funded his campaign, he toed your line, he got elected and now you're prasing yourselves for having a black guy?
It's so disgusting.
Why do y'all have to control everyone? Have y'all ever thought that there are black people who are conservatives too? There are also gay people and women and Hispanics and college professors that are conservatives as well. These are people, who like you, believe in smaller government and free enterprise and whatever else it is you people believe in…they just happen to be black or gay or women or teaching at a college. Shocking I know…but they do exist.
Because like liberalism, conservatism merely refers to ideas and theories on ways government should be run. It’s only in America and REALLY bad in SC that conservatism has become the white man’s politics. The way you believe that government should be run really has nothing to do with your ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc. it has only become an issue because the Republican Party chose to use wedge issues to isolate these minority groups in an effort to get votes.
So yes…you'll probably have to drop the discriminating legislation y'all are always putting up against these minorties to get them on board but it is possible for y'all to diversify in a non-sketchy way.
So what will it be? Funding a random minority candidate and claiming victory because you got one black guy elected or truly accepting minorities as a full voice in SC and as a member of your party?
Oh, please do prove that y'all are willing to accept Scott…then I’ll gladly pat y’all on the back. Because the best day will be when ALL political parties start focusing on the ideas and theories and stop using money and government to discriminate.
Then there will be no need to pat ourselves on the back for letting the black guy into the club.
