Suing Educators?
The same people that hate suing the most in SC and are currently all about “tort reform” are NOW proud to claim they are suing the South Carolina Association for School Administrators (SCASA).
Surprise.
We should all know by now these are the Mark Sanford funders/clan (Howard Rich, SCRG, Reform SC, et. al). Those are the same folks that are using South Carolinians as guinea pigs to see how far we will allow them to go to change our state government in an effort to make themselves an assload of money.
Over at FITS, they offer their spin in this piece here. Attacking so-called “educrats.” REALLY must you people continually attack the dedicated educators of our state and attempt to blame them for not fixing the intense problems that plague our schools? I think we are all aware we’ve got some problems with public education in SC. But the continual push for vouchers and your attempts to shrink government by eliminating public education…is simply…scary not to mention SELFISH. But, obviously, that’s okay in your world. I don’t think that way.
These people will stop at nothing in their attempt to destroy public education and South Carolina better get a clue.
These school choice cronies always use Milwaukee as their bread and butter example.
Milwaukee? Where did I first hear someone question the Governor’s Milwaukee dream? Spartanburg’s own Mayor Barnet. He said in an interview with Palmetto Conservation Director Ken Driggers (in August 2006) when asked about vouchers (I tried to link but couldn’t find it up on the website luckily, I have a paper copy):
“I am not afraid of competition. I think we should have charter schools if they are structured correctly. But I have not been convinced that the voucher system being promoted can improve the choices of those who need help the most. Governor Sanford talks about Milwaukee. I went to Milwaukee with the Governor and saw that system in action. Milwaukee is not South Carolina. There are many choices from charter schools to parochial schools to private academies. In South Carolina—at least today—the choices are just not here, and it will not work in our school districts where choices are not available or transportation is nonexistent.”
So, the Governor tried to convince Spartanburg's Republican Mayor. He took him to Milwaukee to show him firsthand yet he still wasn't convinced. It obviously wouldn't work in our community. And I couldn't agree with the Mayor more. SC isn’t Milwaukee and we’d be stupid to assume their choices would work the same for us. It’s not as simple as just implementing vouchers. Governor Sanford’s “choice”/Voucher idea is about shrinking state government in the biggest way possible (nixing public schools) AND putting your tax dollars towards private/for-profit schools instead of fixing the public schools we’ve already invested in. Who benefits from public tax dollars there? The kids? Oh, yeah.
Actually, I’m thinking I should go into the private school business if this goes through.
While I see administrators who want to fix the system we’ve already invested billions of dollars in and educators we pay a pittance spending their lives in the classroom teaching our children in an effort to make a difference, Sanford and company are busy calling those that disagree with the Governor's school choice plan “educrats”.
The only RATS I see in this equation are those that are trying to undermine the system for their own personal gain. I wish the Governor and his paid help would stop insulting South Carolinians that are working to make a difference and join those of us that truly believe in reforming the SC public education system instead of attempting to destroy it….
